about

Live Archive Volume 5: One of the more melodic concerts in the series, opening with piano and guitar improvisations, then moving into tracks from Bestiary and other rhythmic pieces from the last decade.

Notes:

When Maer Israel promoted my concert at Morrison Planetarium in December 2001 (Alien Zoology) we had to turn people away at the door because the show sold out. Maer decided to search for a larger venue to put on another show six months later. He found the beautiful Cowell Theater at Fort Mason, perched on a pier over the bay at the northern tip of the San Francisco peninsula. The best open slot was a late Sunday afternoon, which turned out to be Mother's Day. The unfortunate calendar convergence reduced the audience a bit; but the concert looked and sounded excellent, aided by deeply hued projected lighting and a big sound system. The opening 20 minutes are unique to this concert: improvisations on piano, then guitar with modular synth. The rest of the concert consisted of pieces that frequently fill my live sets, from an assortment of albums spanning the previous decade. The good quality of the performance and the recording deemed it worthy to include in this Live Archive collection.
